About Us
If you’re from Sunapee, you know the Livery is a very special place. Many might say it’s the heart of the Harbor. Sharon, one of the co-owners of the Riverside Artist Studio, was also one of the founding members of the Livery and an integral part of why the building is so beloved by our community.
How did we get here, you ask?
One day, Sharon and Katie were sitting in Katie’s classroom after a long day of teaching. They got to brainstorming all of their creative hobbies on Katie’s whiteboard. For years, Katie and Sharon had been honing their skills at silversmithing, pottery, stained glass, weaving, basket making, quilting, and on and on, while also raising families and teaching full time. In fact, they had actual rooms in their homes dedicated to the tools, supplies, and art they created. After they finished daydreaming and brainstorming, they wondered what—if anything—it could ever become. They took a photo and went on about their lives.
Months later, Sharon had a great idea. What if they started a business in the lower-level Stables of the Livery? They could use the once-horse stalls as individual workspaces and offer classes and a retail area in the main area. They loved the idea of mixing the historic building with bright, vibrant art. The well-worn floors and the paint-chipped walls of the Stables added value to what they hoped they could bring to life—the Riverside Artist Studio. So they set to work deconstructing their home “studios” and started setting up a space that turned out better than anyone could have hoped. It’s a creative, warm, and inviting space, and they are so grateful to be there.
Come visit the Riverside Artist Studio—take a class, check out the art made on location by Katie and Sharon, and enjoy Sunapee Harbor.
